Marine Debris Sort Report January 2020

Marine Debris Sort Report January 2020

Did you know?

An estimated 80% of all trash in the ocean is from land-based sources. This means everyone can play a part in keeping our oceans clean by reducing our single-use plastic usage, even if you live far from the ocean!

Following each beach and underwater cleanup, LMC’s conservation department sort and analyzes the collected trash. In January 2020, eight cleanups were conducted.

In January 2020, LMC and partner organizations removed more than 600 pounds of marine debris – 95.2% was made of plastic! The strangest items found were a plastic hanger and a toilet seat cover.
